Pakistani rupee is constantly nose diving against US dollar for the last couple of months. Moreover, there doesn't appear to be much chance for the local currency to stabilize at any time in the near future. As a result the laptop prices in Pakistan and other imported consumer items have jumped up to unprecedented heights.

With this inflationary background, regular consumers and business professionals are unsure about whether to upgrade their outdated laptops or get a new one. Small businesses and freelancers who rely on these portable devices for their job are especially impacted by this issue. They can be found asking the big question: How to balance their budgets between expenses related to everyday life and work.

Price is a major factor but not the only one when deciding to buy a laptop that can handle all your business related tasks. So instead of focusing solely on pricing consider usage and pricing together so that your long term goals of business growth are not affected.

Choosing the Right Business Laptop

Here below we have discussed in detail the usage level and hardware components that will help you decide the right laptop within you company’s budget.

Basic Usage

For people who just use their laptops for the most basic tasks, such as sending emails, streaming films, surfing the web, and utilizing SaaS programs, this category includes the most economical solutions. Chromebooks and other products using Google's Chrome OS, such as Android tablets, are suitable for everyday tasks. Here are two excellent laptops to consider:

  • HP ProBook laptops
  • Lenovo ThinkPad laptops

Above-average Usage

This level includes the fundamental use features and adds the capability for extensive program usage, such as video- and photo-editing applications and greater multitasking, which demands higher processing power. The MacBook, the MacBook Air, and the Lenovo IdeaPad are laptops suitable for above-average use. Here are two viable alternatives to consider:

  • Dell Latitude laptops
  • HP EliteBook laptops

Exceptional Usage

Several labor-intensive apps may often run concurrently with the most processing power when used properly. These users often work in fields like engineering, design, and computer gaming. This degree of utilization is also often seen among financial industry personnel when calculating massive data volumes. With this level of use, there may be times when you require something more than a laptop. Here are some strong laptops to take into account:

  • MacBook Pro
  • Dell XPS 15

What you must look for?

Purchasing a new business laptop may seem difficult since many of the top models have the same appearance, operating system, and certain functions. Reviewing each laptop's characteristics is the first step in deciding which is the greatest business laptop for your staff.

Battery Life

A low-cost business laptop should have a battery life of at least 10 or 12 hours. At least 13 hours of office work should be doable with more costly versions. Be sure the laptop you choose has the speed and efficiency necessary to manage your daily tasks. Choose outstanding CPU companies like AMD, Nvidia GeForce, and Intel to speed up your regular tasks.

Hard Drive

A good business laptop should have at least 8GB of RAM since contemporary apps need a lot of processing power. Moreover, there has to be adequate RAM to allow for quick data access and transmission. Solid-state drives (SSDs) are speedier and more dependable than hard disk drives (HDDs), hence they should be used in the device.

Processor (CPU)

For best performance and faster speeds, business laptops should be fitted with the most recent Intel Core CPU generation or corresponding AMD processor models (Intel 9th Gen and above, AMD 3rd Gen and up). The clock speed of newer CPU generations is greater than that of earlier generations, making them speedier.

Cooling system

More performance need better cooling. As performance is throttled as the laptop grows warmer, it may be a problem since the fan is often poorer on thinner laptops. Also, the ventilation system is often noisier the harder it has to work. Hence, you must pay particular attention to the CPU ventilation system if you want the best performance and the least amount of noise.

Operating System (OS)

Being current is crucial for easy compatibility. If you're thinking about older models or reconditioned laptops, it's essential to pay particular attention to the operating system. Windows 7 and Windows 8 are examples of older operating systems that are either no longer maintained or are reaching the end of their useful lives. Your device may be more susceptible to hacks if it runs certain operating systems.

Number of ports

A USB port, an HDMI port, an SD card reader, and compatibility for VGA and DVI should all be present on the laptop.

Weight

The average weight of a business laptop is 4 pounds. Anything more than 4.6 pounds might be a strain if you move it about often, so you don't want one that weighs more than that.

Display Size and Type

Widescreen formatting is becoming more and more common in the corporate world since it is useful for desk jobs. Since the panels are still easy to see in direct sunshine or bright workplace lighting, anti-reflective screens are preferable.

Durability

Your laptop should be sturdy especially if you travel often. The hinges and lid should both be composed of metal, preferably magnesium or a carbon alloy.
